AT Equivalent Fractions 3

Equivalent Fractions!
We are learning to add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators.


What is ½ of ¼? 2 x 4 = 8 ½ = 4/8 ¼ = 2/8 4/8 + 2/8 = 6/8 or ¾

What is ⅓ of ⅕? 3 x 5 = 15 ⅓ = 5/15 ⅕ = 3/15 5/15 + 3 /15 = 8/15

What is ⅕ of 150? 5 x 3 = 15 ⅕ of 15 = 3 x 10 = 30

What is ⅘ of 20? 5 x 4 = 20 16

5/12 + 4/12 = 9/12 or ¾


What is 2/6 of 36? 12

What is 5/11 of 22? 10

What is 2/13 of 26? 4

What is 4/8 the same as? ½

What is ⅖ the same as? 10/25

What is 10/30 the same as? ⅓

What is 25/50 the same as? ½



I have 2/16 of a cake at a birthday party. I am then given ⅝ of a cake. How much cake do I have altogether? 12/16

I have 5/20 of a cake left over from the party. I cut the leftover cake into quarters. What fraction is each of these pieces? ⅛








⅕ + 2/20 = 3/10 .

1/7 + ⅚ = 41/42

4/9 + 5/13 = 79/117

8/13 + 9/24 = 103/104

7/9 + 5/18 = 1 Whole 1/18

6/8 + 5/14 = 1 Whole 3/28

2/15 + 8/19 = 158/285

4/6 + 7/7 =  1 whole and 4/7


Bob has a 3/4 metre of length of wood. He cuts off 1/5 metres.
What length of wood is left?  11/20
